Not for some arbitrary power level, but so he can be strong enough to meet harder challenges. He pushes himself because he wants to push his limits. Not for power but because that is what he wants to do. The system has given him a chance to finally be himself. In this one the MC isn't looking for power. The other books the MCs are all about gaining more power so they can either fight or survive. Plus, most importantly this book had something the other ones lacked. The things that were missing in the previous books were there now. This is the only one where I think the series has gotten better. Defiance of the Fall was all about fighting and got a little stale. He who fights with monsters was great but then book 6 was really bad. I would have initially put this book in third place out of those series after the first 2 books. He who fights with monsters, Defiance of the Fall. In the last couple of years there have been some epic litprg books. It looks like this series has finally found it's stride.
